Mahu, my first mystery novel, was
published in August 2005 by Haworth Press. The word mahu (which
is normally written with macrons over both vowels) means homosexual
in Hawaiian, and in the course of the novel, my hero, Honolulu
police detective Kimo Kanapa'aka, is forced to confront his
sexuality while attempting to solve the murder of a local gangster.

Steve Berman has it all—-an MBA from
a top school, a fast-paced job with a real estate syndicator
in Manhattan, and a pretty girlfriend he just might marry someday.
He has been a good boy all his life, fulfilling each of his
parents' dreams for his future. But unexpectedly, he loses his
job just before leaving for a visit to his parents in Florida.
Knocked off his path, he's not sure what the future holds. On
the flight south, he meets a slightly mixed-up real estate developer
building a new shopping center at the edge of the Everglades,
and after a visit to the construction site, accepts a job there,
which allows him to avoid telling his parents that he was fired.

| The first episodes of my serial
drama, SoBe Story, were published on the now, sadly,
defunct website Men4Men. However, you can still read them here.

| I've put together groups of
my short stories, some of which have been published already,
into Microsoft Reader collections. To read them, you'll need
the reader software from Microsoft.
